During the 60's and for many years, one of the best hotels in Ocean Drive was the Mar Vista Motel on Ocean Blvd at 6th Avenue South. Only a handful of hotels that were close to Main Street and the "Horseshoe" were actually clean and always promised a wonderful vacation. The Mar Vista was the best of these. It was small, had a glorious little oceanfront pool, and the nicest rooms of any hotel in North Myrtle Beach.
The condo boom in the early 2000's proved to really catch on with the baby boomers who had been coming to Ocean Drive all their lives, and those who were heavily involved with the SOS, or "Society of Shaggers". All the small hotels around Main Street quickly became the big high-rise condo-hotels that we see today, and the Mar Vista was no exception.
In keeping with its preferred status, the Mar Vista Grande did indeed become grand, and so it stayed. Walk to the shagger bars, to the beachwear stores, to the restaurants (such as Hoskins - with the best seafood in all of Myrtle Beach), to the arcade, to Fat Harold's Beach Bar, and to relive that feeling they had when they were teenagers. That's what Ocean Drive is all about, and the Mar Vista Grande is still a favorite.
The new MarVista Grande Resort is an amazing combination of architecture and landscaping, with covered parking, a huge oceanfront pool, designer furnishings, granite countertops, stainless appliances, and elegantly appointed, spacious 3 and 4 bedroom condos. The penthouse units have to be seen to be believed! It's first class throughout, and one resort we recommend you spend some time considering. Prices range from $300K to $600k, and there are foreclosures left to jump on.
