Scott Umstead, Attorney

Scott Umstead is a licensed attorney with 30+ years of active experience in commercial and residential real estate matters of nearly every kind. His representation is typically on behalf of residential purchasers and sellers as well as both institutional and private lenders and includes negotiating and drafting complex real estate documents of every description (eg. contracts, leases, easements, licenses, rights of way, common boundary items, etc.).

Beyond the transactional aspect of his work, he represents property owners and lenders in a variety of civil proceedings, including contract disputes, enforcement proceedings, foreclosure, partition, commercial and residential eviction, and quiet title actions. 

Scott is a graduate of The Citadel (class of 1982) and Wake Forest School of Law (class of 1985). Upon graduation, he entered the military and served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps, (JAG) primarily in Fort Hood Texas (1st Cavalry Division) with further duty in northern Germany. He counts these experiences as some of the most significant and formational of his life and takes care to represent them well each and every day.

Scott prides himself on the educational aspect of his work by actively authoring articles on areas of real estate law, lecturing to real estate groups and providing video tutorials for the general betterment of the real estate profession.  In personal life, his pursuits are the quieter kind -- time with his dog (Joe), reading, writing, exercise, and study.
