If you've ever dreamed of living in Mayberry, your next best bet might be Aynor, South Carolina. Aynor is a farming community a few miles from the county seat of Conway, and about 30 miles from the beaches of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach. The population in 2023 by the census bureau is estimated at 1,051. Much of Aynor is farmland, and many of Myrtle Beach's influential families and business owners originally had large tobacco farms in Aynor. Other farms raised cotton, food crops, and pine trees for turpentine.

Homes in Aynor can be any type. There are historic homes, farmhouses with many acres of land, inexpensive starter homes, and newly built luxury homes in a subdivision. For those that want to avoid an HOA situation, this town probably offers the most homes without one.
With or without acreage, the lots in this area tend to be larger than those closer to the beach. In recent times, Conway's new construction builders have expanded so far north that Aynor has grown and the line between the two cities has blurred. Several communities inside Aynor boast expensive and large estate homes. The nearby city of Conway is the county seat for Horry County and offers many restaurants, parks, and a hospital.

Aynor itself was originally settled in the mid-1800's by John Eyenner, and was known as Eyenner's Farm. It was incorporated into the city of Aynor in 1913 when the railroad added a terminal nearby. Opinions seem to differ whether "Aynor" was named after Eyenner or Mary Aynor Lewis, an early townsperson with nine children. Entertainment in the town is mostly left to Conway, but there are Horseback riding and Horseback carriage tours, a "living history" farm attraction, and antique lovers will be particularly interested in this area as there are quite a few antique stores.

Schools in the Aynor district are considered some of the best. Aynor High School's athletic dept is famous for having the second-most championship wins in Horry County, offering baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and most other sports.
