The Forest Dunes subdivision is a loosely defined but prestigious community that stretches from around 63rd Avenue North in Myrtle Beach to 68th Ave North, and west of Hwy 17 Business to the ocean. Long known as "the Golden Mile", a home in Forest Dunes is highly coveted.
And yet, there are inexpensive older homes to be found all through the community. Porcher Drive runs parallel to Ocean Blvd throughout, and the homes along there would be a block from the beach. There are smaller homes in this part as affordable as $200,000. Move down the road to oceanfront and you can find a home for several million. There are even a few new construction homes in Forest Dunes, but no hotels on the beach in this 6 block radius. Very little tourist traffic will be bothering you in this neighborhood, and the beach will be all yours!
One section of Forest Dunes is called "The Avenue", with some newer raised beach homes built in the mid to late 2000's. These large homes are priced in the $800,000 range and have every upgrade imaginable. Being off the ground offers security against any kind of flooding.
This would be almost exclusively for residents, but there might be a few homes that have vacation rentals. Children attend Myrtle Beach Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. One of the best seafood restaurants, Mr. Fish, is on 17 at the end of 65th Ave North, as well as one of the best breakfast places, Akel's. New York Pizza and a CVS drugstore are also a golf cart ride up the street. Residents are just a couple of miles from Grand Strand Hospital, the Carolina Opry, and the famous "Restaurant Row". This is the perfect place to call home!
